43 million people across the country are hitting the road over the next four days for the Thanksgiving holiday.

With the extra drivers on the road  Alabama State Troopers will be in full force to make sure all traffic laws are obeyed.

Trooper Kevin Cook said, "We want people to enjoy this holiday period but we want them to be courteous to their fellow motorist. They need to buckle up and slow down. Don't drink and drive because there is no tolerance for drinking and driving,"

Cook said troopers will be checking for all driving violations.

"We're checking for speeding, the aggressive drivers, not wearing you seat belt, the impaired driver and this year we have a new law about texting and driving," said Cook.

Six people died on Alabama highways during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period last year.

Five of those victims were not wearing their seat belts.
