Many Christmas shoppers are playing Santa this year from the comfort of their own home. They're buying gifts online instead of fighting the crowds at local stores.

With Cyber Monday only a week away, some are wondering if their virtual shopping trip will be a safe one.

Lori Beumer with the Better Business Bureau of Dothan warns 'Cyber Monday' can be an ideal time for hackers to commit fraud and identity theft on unsuspecting victims.

Beumer said never use anyone else's Wi-Fi connection to order anything online. She also suggests using other forms of payment instead of your debit card.

"When you use your debit card you stand the chance of having your whole checking account wiped out. If you use a credit card, your card provider we contact you about unusual activity, "explained Beumer.

Beumer said only visit secure and reputable websites and make sure the sites have the Better Business Bureau seal of approval.
