Mr. Joe Lee Burchfield, age 79, a resident of Newton died Wednesday November 14, 2012 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan following an extended illness.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday November 19, 2012 at the Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery in Tuscaloosa with the Reverend Ron Wilson officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing.
The family will be receiving friends on Monday November 19, 2012 at the Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the Graveside services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to his former family home, The Jemison Van de Graaff Mansion Foundation, P.O. Box 1216, Tuscaloosa, AL. 35403.
Mr. Burchfield was born on December 5, 1932 in Tuscaloosa the son of the late Joseph Pegeus Burchfield II and Nell Manderson Burchfield. He attended high school at Marion Military Institute and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1951, then attended the University of Alabama. Mr. Burchfield was retired as vice president with the First National Bank in Dothan after serving 20 years. He moved to Dothan from Birmingham in 1965.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Mike White, Newton; daughter, Rachel Burchfield, Dothan; two brothers, Wilbur Manderson Burchfield(Pat), Mobile; J.P. Burchfield, III(Lou), San Antonio, TX.; 3 grandchildren, Justin Boutwell (fiance Tiffany Woodall), Rehobeth; Joseph White (Stefanie), New Orleans, La.; Stephanie White (fiance Brandon Henderson), Pansey; and 4 great-grandchildren.
