A man who admitted guilt regarding his involvement in the theft of $12,000 from a Cowarts supermarket was sentenced to twenty years in prison. Anthony Hatcher, 42, received the sentence one year to the day after his arrest.

Hatcher, who lists a Miami, FL address, was denied probation Wednesday because of several previous felony convictions.

However, as he was led away from the courtroom by security officers, Hatcher proclaimed his innocence.. "I didn't rob the Cowarts store," Hatcher said.  He claims to have helped officers catch at least one more person involved in the theft.

Hatcher also questioned the judge's sentencing.  "You entered a plea in this court," said Circuit Judge Butch Binford.
