Ronnie Gilley Appears Prison-Bound Next Week

By: Ken Curtis
Updated: November 14, 2012

It appears Country Crossing developer Ronnie Gilley will report Monday to begin serving a federal prison sentence.

Gilley has received several delays in reporting for his six year and eight month prison term including the most recent that delayed his reporting date until November 19.   In his order, Federal Judge Myron Thompson said any further request for delay must be filed by November 13.  Court records show no such request has been filed.

Gilley, who was first ordered to begin serving in his sentence in August, has remained free because of a unspecified medical condition that required surgery and recuperation.

Gilley pleaded guilty July 16 to charges he offered lawmakers money in exchange for their pro-gambling legislation votes.  The Enterprise businessman testified against other defendants in the case, none of whom were convicted.

Two others also pleaded guilty to corruption based charges in connection with the investigation.  Former State Representative Terry Spicer is serving a four year and nine month sentence for illegally accepting money from Country Crossing lobbyist Jarrod Massey.  Spicer, also a former Elba school superintendent, is housed at a federal prison in Marion, Illinois.  Federal records show he is scheduled to be released October 14, 2016.

Meanwhile, Massey was ordered to serve five years and five months.  He is housed at a minimum security prison in Montgomery.  His projected release date is October 2, 2016.

It's not known where Gilley will serve his sentence.
