Wiregrass Veterans Treated To Infantry Museum Trip

By: Press Release
Updated: November 12, 2012
The 4th Annual Honor Bus Tour departed from Dothan today taking 35 United States Veterans and guests from the Wiregrass area to the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia.  The tour, made possible in part by Baston-Cook Construction, was designed to celebrate and salute members of all branches of the military for their dedication and service to this country.  Batson-Cook chartered a bus to the museum and treated their veteran guests to guided tours, and IMAX film screening and a luncheon in their honor.

Veterans were greeted at the museum by 100 soldiers participating in basic training at Fort Benning.  They lined the walkway of the entrance to the museum, silently saluting their predecessors.  According to COL (Ret) and Executive Vice President of the National Infantry Foundation Greg Camp, this poignant moment combined both the legacy of the infantry with the future of the infantry.

Museum docents led guests on guided tours of the expansive museum as well as a visit to the World War II Company Street.  Here, the group was able to tour seven buildings that represented life at a 1940s Army post.  "The craftsmanship in the museum is beautiful," began US Navy Veteran, Sam Grice.  "I've had a wonderful time today!  It is amazing to see what our forefathers fought and died for."

While breaking for lunch, guests were given a presentation 'Construction of the National Infantry Museum' by Paul Meadows, Batson-Cook's project executive who oversaw the museum's construction.  "This museum is such a special place to us.  After completion, we wanted to share it with the men and women who are represented here; and what better way to accomplish this than to bring them here to this special place each year on Veterans Day," stated Meadows.
