TROY, Ala. - The 2012-13 season officially begins on Friday for the Troy men's basketball team, as they face SEC opponent Mississippi State in the first regular season game ever at the brand new Trojan Arena.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Friday also marks the first time that an SEC team will visit Troy for basketball.  Earlier this year, Mississippi State became the first SEC school to visit Troy in football.

Troy came out victorious in its final preseason exhibition on Monday night against Alaska-Anchorage, 61-57.  Junior transfer Hunter Williams led the squad with 17 points and four assists, while Emil Jones was strong with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.  Josh Warren, another newcomer to the program, tore down nine offensive boards, something that no Trojan has done in a regular season game since 2003.

Mississippi State is going through changes as well, with all five new starters and a first-year head coach.  Jalen Steele led the Bulldogs in their 80-74 exhibition win over William Carey on Sunday, scoring 17 points in 32 minutes.  Wendell Lewis, Fred Thomas and Colin Borchert each had 15 points.

Troy has never defeated Mississippi State, losing all nine matchups.  Last season, the Trojans fell to the Bulldogs, 106-68, in Starkville, Miss.

Historically, the Trojans have done extremely well in their home openers, winning 27-of-30 during the Don Maestri era.

Tickets for the game are still available, however fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets soon.
