Cottonwood Couple Arrested In Decade Old Rape Case

By: Ken Curtis
Updated: November 8, 2012

A Cottonwood couple has been arrested on rape charges stemming from sex acts on a child under the age of 10 that are alleged to have occurred in Ohio as far back as 14 years ago.

Court documents show Larry Eugene Bones, 36, and his wife, Brandy Warner Bones, 33, were taken into custody Tuesday by the Houston County Sheriff's Office.  They were arrested on fugitive warrants stemming from the Ohio charges. The couple waived extradition and will be transported to Dayton.

The alleged victim is believed to have come forward in September, claiming the abuse occurred numerous times when she was between the ages of two and eight.  She is now 16 years old.

The charges against the Bones were filed earlier this week and a Montgomery County, Ohio grand jury could hear testimony within a few days.  That panel will decide if there is enough evidence to warrant a trial.  The Bones resided in Ohio before moving to Cottonwood.

Federal court documents indicate Larry Bones was indicted in August, 2010 on charges he violated federal firearms laws. Jim Smith, then Cottonwood police chief, said Bones is a convicted felon who had guns in his home. He had previously been found guilty of assaulting a police officer in Ohio.

Bones was ordered to serve twelve months in federal prison and an additional three years  supervised probation following his guilty plea to the gun charges.  It's not immediately clear if federal officials will seek to revoke his release because of the rape allegation.
