Richard Lee Whaley, 83, of Dothan AL passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at Westside Terrace.
The
family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at
Sunset Funeral Home, Dothan AL. Graveside military services will be held
1 pm Friday, November 16, 2012 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton GA
with Sunset Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr.
Whaley was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 22, 1928 to Alfred
Byron ("AB") Whaley and Georgia Ann Knifong. He was a June 1946
graduate
of Central High School, Kansas City, MO. and attended the University of
Kansas City. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served with
occupational forces from September 1946 until March 1948 where he
received the Army Occupational Medal and World
War II Victory Medal. He was recalled to the United States Air Force
Reserve to serve in Korea with his discharge in February 1953. He
married Marion Louise Crosby on August 18, 1950. They had two daughters:
Sandra Whaley Boring (Robert Neal), and Cynthia Whaley
Dodson (Dale). He was employed at Trans World Airlines (TWA) holding
many positions in the Accounting field from February 1953 until 1961. He
joined the Audit staff in 1961 for JCPenney in Kansas City MO. His
assignments with JCPenney took him from Missouri
to Iowa, Illinois, and Georgia. He was a member of the Institute of
Internal Auditors, Chicago Chapter. His last position held was
Comptroller and Operations Manager for the Plaza Las Americas store in
San Juan, Puerto Rico. He retired, after 27 years of service,
December 31, 1988 moving to Eufaula AL. Retirement years were spent
traveling in an RV with his wife, Marion, and their Dobermans
sightseeing and visiting friends. Mr. Whaley enjoyed fishing, hunting
and woodworking.
Survivors
include his bride of 62 years, Marion, daughters, Sandy and Cindy, son
in laws, Neal and Dale, granddaughter, Tami Lee (Stephen), great
grandsons,
Caleb Stephen and Elijah James, nieces Vicki Lynn Pinney, Kansas City,
MO, Julie Dewitte Crosby, Palm Harbor FL and nephew, Richard Lemuel
Crosby, Kansas City, MO and grand pets, Jaydee, Pete and Rosie.
In
