From the AHSAA:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Enterprise High School defensive back Shaq Solomon became just the second defensive back since 2007 to intercept four passes in one
game as the Wildcats closed the regular season last week with a 58-19 win over Jeff Davis.
For his effort, Solomon edged out a host of other top football
performances to claim the AHSAA Prep Spotlight for Week 10.
Solomon returned two of his picks for touchdowns - covering 40 and 13 yards - and became the 19th
player in state history
to swipe at least four passes in one game. The state record of five is
held by three players - Devyn Murphy of J.B. Pennington versus Falkville
(2006); Phillip Williams of Meek versus Phillips of Bear Creek (2001);
and Charlie McCoy of Georgiana vs. Florala
(1981).
Ken Gamble of Woodlawn had four swipes against Jackson-Olin earlier this season.
Solomon's effort edged out Vinemont running back Ty Jones,
Brooks quarterback Skyler Beck and Hamilton quarterback Mitch Stults for
this week's Spotlight honor.
Stults became
the state's all-time leader in all-purpose yardage as Hamilton beat
Haleyville 26-6. Stults threw for 142 yards and one TD and rushed
for 88 yards and a TD to give him 238 total yards for the game and
11,376 all-purpose yards for his career heading into this week's Class
3A state playoffs.
He also closed out his second 10-0 season as the starter in the last three years. He moved past previous record holder Zach Smith of Susan Moore, who had 11,266 all-purpose yards from 2003-06 before moving on to an outstanding career as a defensive
back at Mississippi State.
Jones, the
strong Vinemont running back, had a 42-carry, 317-yard rushing
performance and scored five touchdowns in a 33-24 win over Randolph.
His
300-yard effort was the seventh 200-yard plus performance this season
and gives him 2,070 yards rushing and 33 touchdowns scored heading into
the state playoffs.
His efforts are a big reason the Eagles rebounded from a 1-9 record in 2011 to 8-2 this season.
Beck passed for 456 yards and completed seven touchdown
passes of 44, 28, 66, 6, 56 and 41 yards as Brooks downed Colbert County
