Bobby J. Porterfield

Bobby J. Porterfield, a resident of Columbia, died early Tuesday morning, November 6, 2012, at his home. He was 82.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 9, 2012, in the Ebenezer Baptist Church with Reverend Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer Baptist church, 3894 Ebenezer Road, Columbia, AL 36319.

            Mr. Porterfield, son of the late Joseph Jackson Porterfield and Irene Evers Porterfield, was born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, and was reared in Monroe, Louisiana. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Navy where he retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Porterfield was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a city letter carrier in Dothan. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 87, Dothan. Mr. Porterfield was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sabrina Nall.

            Surviving relatives include his wife, Voncile Reeder Porterfield, Columbia; one daughter, Cindy Nall and husband, Craig, Columbia; two sons, Eugene Porterfield, California; Dennis Porterfield and wife, Barbara, Webb, AL; three grandchildren, Troy Nall, Michelle Nall, and Michael Porterfield; two step-grandchildren, Dana Blanco and Teddy Childs; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
