Abner D. Moss

Abner D. Moss, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at his residence. He was 89.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Tate and Rev. Rick Glenn officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Monday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be sent to Memphis Baptist Church "Building Fund", 4595 Eddins Road, Dothan, AL 36301.
Mr. Moss was born August 7, 1923 in Cottonwood and lived his early life there. He retired from GTE after 26 years of service. He enjoyed farming and working in his yard. Mr. Moss was a longtime member of Memphis Baptist Church where Rev. Ernest O'Neal served as his pastor for many years.
Mr. Moss was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Cotton Moss, a sister and brother-in-law, George and Alyne Blevins, three brothers, Elbert, Ellis and Alvin Moss, and a step brother, Aubrey Dorsey.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Pippin Exum Moss; two step-daughters, Charlotte McCoy and Martha Martin; a brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Thelma Hagler; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Cotton and Martha Moss; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Martin, Bob Holman, Kenny Moss, Taylor Weeks, Seth Hagler and James Mims.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care hospice for their loving care.
