A non-profit organization is giving kids a heads-up in school by providing free vision screenings.

Studies show children with vision impairments cannot learn as well as others.

Focus First is a service program that provides the screenings for children under two years old.

By screening toddlers, they're able to detect eye problems and treat them.

Since 2004--the Focus First has been able to screen over 175,000 children in rural and urban areas of Alabama.

"That that is 175,00 kids that know that they are going to have the opportunity to learn their ABC's and letters and won't be behind even at five years old," said Linn Groft, a volunteer with Focus First.

Of the children screened by focus first-- more than 17,000 were suffering from undetected vision problems.
