National Peanut Festival Recipe Contest Brings in the Nuttiest Foods

By: Megan Hunter
Updated: November 1, 2012

Peanut butter, peanut cake, even peanut salsa were all on the menu Thursday at the National Peanut Festival's recipe contest.

More than 150 people entered the contest this year.

They submitted recipes for cakes, pies, cookies and other foods, all with one key ingredient--peanuts.

It's a yearly tradition that some say is a tasty way to kick off the festival.

"This is like our pre-fun, getting ready for the fair. We know when this day comes that we can kick off the fair," said Teresa Wilson, the chairman of the peanut recipe contest.

The winners will receive over two thousand dollars in cash and prizes.
