Man Burned To Death In House Fire Idenfied, Yet Another Family Tragedy

By: Ken Curtis
Updated: October 31, 2012

It appears a man who died in a fire early Wednesday morning almost made it out before being overcome by heavy smoke.  Henry County Coroner Derek Wright identified the victim as Joseph William Drescher, 47, who died in his home located a short distance north of Haleburg.

"We found Mr. Dresher's body just inside the front door of the home with a fire extinguisher beside it," Wright said.  "He likely was trying to get out while he attempted to fight back flames but, unfortunately, he was not able to escape."    Two dogs also died in the fire which engulfed the old wood home along Henry County Road 103.

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined and fire marshals are continuing to investigate what may have ignited the flames.  Foul play is not suspected.

This is not the first tragedy for the family. Drescher's son, 15-year old Joey Drescher, died nearly four years ago when he was shot by a close friend while the two were deer hunting in Henry County.
