Ghost of John Barrymore brings holiday spirit to SEACT
I Hate Hamlet, a Dramatic Comedy

DOTHAN, AL. October 26, 2012. The greatest success of actor John Barrymore's career was as the lead role in Broadway's Hamlet in 1922. This November, Southeast Alabama Community Theatre presents I Hate Hamlet, about a young television network star in present day. He is offered the coveted role of Hamlet in New York City's Central Park and moves into famed actor John Barrymore's apartment, apprehensive about returning to the stage.

SEACT rings in the holiday season with this dramatic comedy by Paul Rudnick. The play was on Broadway for more than 100 performances in 1991. Audiences will not miss Santa Claus with the ghost of Barrymore on stage, summoned by Felicia, part-time realtor and part-time spiritual medium.  Soap star Andrew Rally struggles between his TV fame and the status of following in Barrymore's footsteps. His girlfriend loves Shakespeare, but a Hollywood friend makes Rally's decision more difficult with an offer of even greater celebrity and a big paycheck.

The cast is mixed with new and seasoned SEACT performers including Alejandro Cowie as soap star Andrew Rally, Charlene Commerford as realtor/medium Felicia Dantine, Mary Helen Richards as Rally's girlfriend Deirdre McDavey, Tomya Moore as glamorous agent and former Barrymore intimate Lillian Troy, Bill Lipscomb as John Barrymore, and Danny Richards as LA friend Gary Lefkowitz. The show is directed by J.E. Saliba.

SEACT presents I Hate Hamlet Nov. 27 - Dec. 1, at the Cultural Arts Center in Dothan. Curtain is 7:00 PM nightly. Tickets go on sale to the general public at the SEACT office Nov. 12th.
