The Southeast Alabama Coalition for the Homeless is preparing for its second Homeless Stand Down this year.   The event provides those that are homeless with services like health care screenings and legal advice.

The coalition president, Russell Clausell, said the stand down also provides the homeless with items they need during the winter months like blankets, coats, and sleeping bags.

"We want to provide the items the homeless will need due to the winter weather changes. It could be a matter of life or death if they aren't properly equipped with the necessities they need during the colder months," explained Clausell.

The stand down will be held November 17th at the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center from 10:00AM until 2:00PM.

Even though the stand down is a few weeks away, the coalition needs donations now.  They're asking the community to donate winter items and toiletries.

You can drop off your donations at the Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 office at 545 West Main Street Suite 313.
