"It's a great day for the town of Newton," Alabama Representative Steve Clouse said with a smile.

On Tuesday the town received nearly a $75,000 grant that they have been waiting on for quite awhile.

The grant will provide sidewalks for the town; an addition everyone says they can't wait to see.

Mayor Ted Stanford said it's not something the town wants to use to improve their look, but something they need to improve their safety.

"Kids coming up from the community and school are walking on the streets and it's very dangerous for them, "explained Mayor Sanford.

The Mayor went on to explain that the sidewalks will also be beneficial to the elderly in the community who will be able to use the sidewalks to walk to and from the only store in town without having to worry about busy traffic.

Construction on these sidewalks is expected to begin very soon and could be done in as little as six weeks.
