Police are hoping you'll use your cell to help them nab criminals.

The Dothan Police Department is implementing a new program called Text-A-Tip.

It's a program being used by many law enforcement agencies across the country, and it allows people to submit tips on criminal activity to police confidentially in the form of a text message.Among them---Dothan, Headland, and Abbeville police as well as the Houston CountySheriff's Office.

"Text a tip to 274-637, which actually spells out "crimes," said Dothan Police Department Cpl. RaeMonica Carney.

"After you put out that number you include DACS for Dothan Area Crime Stoppers, and that tells us what agencies will receive that tip."

Not only can you text your tip to police, but there is also an application in the app store on both iTunes and Android markets.

The program is in affect right now, and police say all tipsters will remain anonymous.
