TROY, Ala. - They needed double overtime, but the Troy soccer team (7-9-2, 2-5-1) took down Louisiana-Lafayette (7-10-1, 1-6-1) 1-0 on Thursday on a strike by Maddie Tieken at the Troy Soccer Complex.  With the win, Troy takes over the eighth place in the Sun Belt Conference standings with just two games remaining.  The Trojans now await the results of the rest of today's matches to see where they stand.

"At this point we control our own destiny," said head coach Chris Bentley.  "We have to focus on continuing to get better.  We can learn a lot from this and try to press forward."

Tieken corralled a deep pass from Samantha Morgan and broke away past the defense to slot the ball past the goalkeeper with just 2:40 remaining in the second overtime.

The Trojans currently sit in eighth place, and control their own destiny heading into their final two matches against ULM and South Alabama.

Chelsey Williams had a great chance in the 21st minute, breaking through the Ragin' Cajun defense.  After receiving the ball at the corner of the 18-yard box, Williams made a nice move to get past the defender and placed a soft shot past the goalkeeper.  The Louisiana-Lafayette defender recovered to clear the ball off the line, before Williams fired another shot that that required an incredible clear off the line.

Williams received another great ball from Paige McMillan late in the half, streaking toward the goal.  Amanda Moorefield made the initial save for the Ragin' Cajuns, but the deflection appeared to be headed for the goal before the defender cleared the ball off the line.

Katie Comeno-Lewis came up huge for the Trojans in the second half, as Elizabeth Manuel fired a shot in from 15-yards, forcing Comeno-Lewis to make a quick sprawling save with her left leg.

Williams was at the center of attention in the first overtime as well, blasting a shot from 10-yards out that the goalkeeper deflected to the post.

The Trojans now head to Monroe, La. to face ULM on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
