Annis Scoggins Brooks

Annis Scoggins Brooks, a resident of Abbeville, died early Monday morning, October 15, 2012, at her home. She was 79.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 17, 2012, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert C. Yawn and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East.

Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abbeville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, AL 36310.

            Mrs. Brooks was born in Myrtlewood, Alabama and moved to Abbeville with her family as a child. She lived in various locations in the United States and overseas while her husband served in the U.S. Army. Mrs. Brooks returned to Abbeville in 1971. She retired from WestPoint Stevens after twenty-seven years employment. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church and attended Union Free Will Baptist Church.

            Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Scoggins and Ima Lammers Scoggins, a son, Danny Brooks, a brother, Bryant Edward Scoggins and a granddaughter, Kiley Roberts, and a great-great granddaughter, Kambrlyn Day.

            Surviving relatives include her husband, William Daniel Brooks, Abbeville; three daughters, Kathy Roberts and husband, Joel, Abbeville; Billie B. Sanders and husband, John Rex, Seneca, S.C., Lisa B. Starling and husband, Bruce, Abbeville; a son, Marvin E. Brooks, Abbeville; two sisters, Betty Farmer and husband, Norman, Patsy Smith and husband, Richard, all of Abbeville; two brothers, Carl Scoggins; Abbeville, Johnny Scoggins (Janice), Haleburg; sisters-in-law, Anita Scoggins, Eufaula; and Mattie Lee Klink, Abbeville; eight grandchildren, Stacy Blankenship (Bill), Ashley Sanders (Crystal), Andrew Roberts (Heather), Blake Brannon (Heather), Joshua Brooks (Melanie), Jessica Brooks,  Benjamin Day and Bryant Day; nine great-grandchildren.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Tom Farmer, AllenTillis, Eddie Scoggins, John Scoggins, Jeremy Scoggins and Carl Scoggins. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the great-grandsons.

            The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Meadows, Dr. Latimer, Dr. McCallister,  Dr. Stokes and to Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Brooks during her illness.
