Maj., USAF, (Ret) James Benjamin "Ben" Davis

Maj., USAF, (Ret) James Benjamin "Ben" Davis passed away Friday, October 12, 2012.  He was 88. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Geneva City Cemetery with Rev. Bob Cox officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m.

 Mr. Davis was born in Geneva County, Alabama on December 14, 1923 to the late James Benjamin Davis, Sr. and Marie Lawhon Davis.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Nell Davis Wilkerson of Grove Hill, Alabama.

 After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corp serving several years in the enlisted ranks as a construction technician. He then became an officer and bomber pilot retiring as a Major with over 20 years in the United States Air Force. He flew for Air America in Southeast Asia until April of 1975. After traveling the world for over 30 years, he continued his travels throughout the United States, returning finally to his hometown of Geneva.

 He is survived by his sister, Lou Smith of Geneva; nephew, Abb R. Smith, Jr. (Renee'), Weatherford, Texas; nieces, Marie Smith, Geneva; Lisa Wilkerson Clark (Tony), Monroeville, Alabama; Lynne Wilkerson Ernest, Sweet Water, Alabama; several cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews.
