Claire Joyce "Sue" Tromer

Claire Joyce "Sue" Tromer passed away on October seventh 2012 with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was born Nov. 24th, 1928 to Henry P. and Clara Barker. She grew up in Cottonwood, Ala. and Graceville, Fla. and was a graduate of Graceville High School.

She married the late Louis Oppert Jr. on Sept. 27, 1948 and they raised their three daughters in Dothan. She was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, where her and her husband attended with their family until they helped charter and establish Highland Park Methodist Church, and had the first child born into that church. In 1985 she moved to Clearwater, Fla. and married Ed Tromer in 1987. She lived in Clearwater until his death in 1999 and returned to Dothan.

She has lived at Extendicare since 2004 and was crowned Miss Alabama Nursing Home in 2005. She enjoyed living at Extendicare and made many new friends with the residents and staff. She was a very involved resident at Extendicare and served as a greeter and volunteer. She loved playing dominoes and won many tournaments. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at Extendicare for the kind and compassionate care that was provided to her.

She is survived by three daughters: Debbie (Frank) Scholtz, Clearwater, Fla. Georgianne (Ronnie) Welch, Dothan, Cindy (Rick) Fraze, Lutz, Fla., brother, Sonny Barker (Mary), Ft. Meyers, Fla., sister, Lucille (Gene) Moore, Edmond, Oka., nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing in a good laugh.

The family requests that any donations be made in her name to Extendicare Health and Rehab Activities department c/o Tonya McCall.

The family will receive friends on Oct. 12 from 6 P.M.- 8 P.M. at Glover Funeral Home in Dothan.
