Federal Prosecutors: Teen's Kidnapper Could Threaten Witnesses, Jurors

The man accused of kidnapping his 15-year old stepdaughter from a Dothan doctor's office last month should remain jailed until trial.  That's according to legal papers filed by federal prosecutors in Montgomery.

In the motion, Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Brown claims kidnapping allegations against Charles Dean Partin is an offense which carries a potential life prison sentence.  Additionally, the document claims Partin is a threat to flee and could threaten or harm potential witnesses or jurors.

Partin is accused of kidnapping the pregnant girl, who was in the care of the Department of Human Resources, while she was waiting at the doctor's office for a scheduled appointment.  The girl's mother, Partin's common-law wife, is believed to have been involved in the abduction.

While Partin is accused of federal kidnapping charges, Julie Bethke is expected to be charged with less serious crimes following her extradition to Alabama.  She remains jailed in Ohio where she and Partin were arrested five days after the alleged abduction. Found safe was the girl and several of her siblings and step-siblings.

A judge is expected to rule on the request to keep Partin behind bars until trial within a few days.
