Alabama's pecan crop fell short this year. It's predicted the state will only see a third of what was gathered last year.

With a much shorter supply of pecans the price typically goes up, but not this year. Sandi Hodge with Shute Pecan Company said last year was a record breaking year for pecan prices, but buyers aren't paying as much this year.

"Seedlings are running around 60 cents. Elliot Pecans are still bringing in a good price for a $1.15. Last year especially at the beginning of the season pecans went for a $1.50 or so a pound. 60 cents for seedlings is off," explained Hodge.

Despite the lower price, it didn't stop people from lining up to sell their pecans. The season for Shute Pecan Company started Monday and cars have been lining up all week.
