Virgil Clarence Savelle, Jr. a resident of the Hebron Community, County Road 55, Headland, AL, died Wednesday afternoon, October 3, 2012, at his home. He was 85.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 6, 2012, in the Hebron Baptist Church with Reverend Don Moore and Reverend Ted Forrester officiating. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Ron Baker officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Butch Glover, 6952 State Highway 134 East, Columbia, AL, 36319.
Mr. Savelle, son of the late Virgle Clarence Savelle, Sr. and Mary Caroline Granberry Savelle, was a native and lifelong resident of the Hebron community. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. Mr. Savelle was retired from the Wiregrass Research and Extension Center of Auburn University in Headland as a foreman. He was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Savelle was preceded in death by his sister, Tolna Savelle DeShazo and his brother, Kermit Savelle.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Rebecca Newsome Savelle; daughter, Darlene Brown and husband, Keith; Larry Savelle and wife, Lynne; all of Hebron Community; four grandchildren, Bryan Savelle, Erin Money, David Savelle and Josh Brown; sister, Jewell Taylor, Newville; sister-in-law, Loyce Savelle, Hebron Community; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ronnie Taylor, Curry Parker, Mike Parker, Bill Jack Granberry, Dale Armstrong and Jackson Corbin.
The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice for their loving care given to Mr. Savelle and his family.
