Jimmy Ray Lanton, Sr.

Jimmy Ray Lanton, Sr., a resident of Columbia, went home to be with God, late Wednesday afternoon, October 3, 2012, at his home. He was 71.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 6, 2012, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Hugh D. Kirkland, Jr. officiating.Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park, Barrington Road, Dothan. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Mr. Lanton was a native of Early County, Georgia and was reared in Jakin and near Columbia. He lived near Columbia most of his lifetime. Mr. Lanton was retired, due to disability, from Alabama Motor Express as a truck driver. In earlier years, he was employed by P.C. White Truck Lines. Mr. Lanton was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Byrd Lanton and Agnes Mae Edmonson Lanton, a son, Shane Lanton, three sisters, Shelby Jean Everson, Minnie Pearl Lanton and Patricia Wilson.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Linda Brown Lanton, Columbia; three daughters, Faye Simms (David), Lexington, S.C.; Emily Ann Williams (Ray White), Cedar Springs, GA; and Amanda Lanton, Columbia; three sons, Ray Lanton, Jr. (Angela), Columbia; David Williams, Columbia; and Shane Williams, Columbia; a sister, Rhonda Herring (Earl), Columbia; three brothers, John W. Lanton (Linda), Webb; James Carroll Lanton (Emma Jean), Blakely, GA; and Rudolph Lanton (Shelby Jean), Columbia; two brothers in law, Buster Wilson, Dothan; Bo Everson, Colquitt, GA; five grandchildren, Blake Lanton, Cole Simms, Tyler Simms, Jordan Lanton and Derrick Williams.
