Ruth Ellen Willis, 84, always a living demonstration of God's unselfish love, passed from earth into eternity on Tuesday, October 2, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Pearson and Rev. John Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. There will be a private internment for family at the Dothan City Cemetery.
Born in Dothan, Alabama on July 11, 1928, Ruth Ellen moved to Dothan at an early age. She was a graduate of Dothan High School and employed with Dothan Bank & Trust and Regions Bank for 42 years.She faithfully served as financial secretary for Lafayette St. UMC, was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, and was a member of Greystone UMC at the time of her death.Mrs. Willis was lovingly cared for by her family and the exceptional staff on Hall 7 at Extendicare for the last three years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Willis.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patti Walker (Joe), Dothan: a son and daughter-in-law, Bob Willis (Jan), Dothan: one sister, Viola Altman, Dothan: one granddaughter, Jessica McLeod (Lee): one great-granddaughter, Tully McLeod; a niece, Peggy Nero:two nephews, John Altman (Cheryl) and Bill Altman (Darlene); and a great-niece, Beth Altman: and a host of friends.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to the Greystone UMC Building Fund.
