Dothan Police received a report of a person down at the intersection of Montgomery Highway and Murphy Mill Road at 5:40 p.m Thursday afternoon.
A Houston County Deputy was the first on scene and said the victim was conscious and breathing but in critical condition. The deputy told police the victim was struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene and the impact knocked him over the bridge.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition and is being treated for a broken neck, broken vertebrae, a bruised lung and various other injuries.
Police arrived on scene within minutes and took over the investigation. They determined that this was a domestic related murder attempt.
Police learned an adult male was traveling on Montgomery Highway in the company of his girlfriend Jayela Regina Marie McShane. The couple was driving down US 231 when they began arguing.
The victim parked the vehicle, got out, and proceeded to walk away. The suspect began driving the vehicle, circled back on Montgomery Highway and stuck the victim before leaving the scene.
Officers immediately began to search for the car in question and located it a short time later in Midland City. Officers continued searching for the suspect throughout the night and located her early this morning.
Police now say they have arrested McShane and charged her with attempted murder. A bond hearing is scheduled for later today.
