Alabama Democratic Party Issues Statement On Shooting At Mobile Party Headquarters

Mobile County Democratic Party Chairman, Representative Napoleon Bracy, responded this afternoon to a shooting incident at approximately 11:45 AM at Mobile County Democratic Party Headquarters on Government Street.  At least one bullet fired from Government Street pierced the front windows of the Party office and caused damage but none of the volunteers or party officials present were injured.  Police are on the scene and currently investigating.
 
"I am definitely shaken and the volunteers who were here working on behalf of Democratic candidates are shaken," said Chairman Bracy.
 
"Right now we don't know the cause, but I will be heartbroken if we find out that this incident was politically motivated", said Chairman Bracy.  "Regardless of our political beliefs or which candidates we support, violence should never be an option in our politics."
 
Alabama Democratic Party Executive Director, Bradley Davidson, stressed that while there is little information at present, he has alerted county party leaders across the state to be alert.  "We don't want to jump to conclusions until the police have more information.  However, the safety of our volunteers and activists should be our top priority and I encourage you to alert the volunteers or staff maintaining your headquarters to keep their eyes and ears open," Davidson told county chairs this afternoon.
 
The Mobile County Democratic Executive Committee is scheduled to meet tonight at 6:00 PM at the Headquarters.  Chairman Bracy reiterated that the local Democrats would not be slowed down.  "Our efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in Mobile County will not be deterred.  Our meeting tonight will go on tonight as scheduled."
