NEW ORELANS - Troy University safety Brynden Trawick and kicker Will Scott were named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday morning. The honors come on the heels of Troy's 14-7 victory at North Texas this past Saturday.

Trawick, who led the Sun Belt in tackles last season, totaled 15 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a pass break up to lead the Trojans against the Mean Green. The seven points allowed by Troy is the fewest, by 10 points, allowed by a Sun Belt Conference school against an FBS team this season.

The Trojans held the Mean Green to just 2-of-14 on third down and 1-of-3 on fourth down in the game. Trawick's tackle total against North Texas is the most by a Troy player this season and tied for the most in the Sun Belt.

With the Troy offense struggling to sustain drives early in the game, Scott was key to the Trojans' success with his right leg. The junior booted nine punts in the game for a 41.7-yard average and placed four of the kicks inside the 20-yard line.

Scott also executed a perfect on-side kick to open the second half, which the Trojans recovered. Between kickoffs and punts, Scott had 12 kicks in the game and the Mean Green were not able to return any of them. He netted 41.7 yards on his nine punts and put both kickoffs (other than the on-side kick) deep in the end zone.

This is the second time this season that Troy has captured two of the three Sun Belt weekly honors. Running back Shawn Southward was named the offensive player of the week and De'Von Terry took home the defensive award following the season-opener at UAB.

The Trojans take their 2-0 road record to Mobile, Ala., this weekend to welcome South Alabama to the Sun Belt Conference. The game will be the Jaguars first-ever Sun Belt tilt and the Trojans will be the first FBS team to visit Ladd-Peebles Stadium to play South Alabama.
