Foster Fest: Downtown's Newest Fall Social Event

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: September 17, 2012

The Downtown Group (DTG), a medium to focus on commerce, culture and community in Downtown Dothan is proud to announce new Foster Fest events for Fall 2012.

Foster Fest will be held on the third Fridays in September, October and November: September 21, October 19 and November 16.  Each evening festival event will be held on the 100 North block of Foster Street in Downtown Dothan from 5:30 - 9:30pm.  These free Fall festivals will feature live music, classic cars, local arts, crafts and delectable food.  Patrons will also enjoy extended shopping hours at the boutiques on Foster like Push Crank Press, The Nature Gallery, Dennis Lee Designs and BHD Interiors.  Those who own classic cars are encouraged to attend and showcase their classic ride at the event.

Foster Fest is patterned after similar programs in other progressive downtowns like Downtown Pensacola's Gallery Night and the Panama City Friday Fest that have grown to over 10,000 event attendees.  "It is our goal to grow Downtown Dothan into the entertainment and shopping hotspot where residents and visitors want to spend their time and their entertainment dollar," Jill Reading, Executive Director of The Downtown Group stated.  Ms. Reading continued, "We are developing Foster Fest as a fun and entertaining way to reintroduce the community to Downtown Dothan and showcase City and private investments.  Private investors see the changes and commitment from the City and understand the time is ripe to invest in Downtown retail, restaurant and entertainment space."

Live music will be featured and located in the green spaces on North Foster Street.  Dates and bands are listed below:

September 21: The Wild Fruit and Mama Tried

  October 19:  Poor Mountain Boys

  November 16:  Los Locos

The DTG, located in Dothan, AL, is the marketing arm for Downtown Dothan, focusing on building community awareness and participation downtown.
