Housing Market Perking Up

Good news for homeowners.

Experts say the national housing market is recovering and Dothan is no exception.

Robert Hewes works for Alfred Saliba Realty Services. He's seen the housing market roller coaster up and down, and now, back up again.

"About 2008 is when [the housing market] started to drop, but Dothan was not affected as drastically and as quickly as it did the rest of the nation," said Hewes.

Now the housing market is on the mend.

The National Association of Realtors reported that homes are starting to sell faster than in previous years.

Hewes said the optimistic outlook comes from interest rates being the lowest he's ever seen.

"People want to take advantage of them," said Hewes. "We are finally starting to see the lenders loosen up a little bit."

One third of the homes purchased in July were on the market less than a month.

Hewes said now is the time to consider buying or selling.

"If you have property or a good house in any location and it's priced right, it's going to sell," he said.

While the housing market is better than before, experts say it will still be a while before it's fully recovered.
