Commuters taking Highway 52 west of Dothan found an easier time of coming and going this morning.

The four-lane project from Dothan to Malvern in Geneva County has finally been opened up for four-lane travel. The move came Wednesday.

The project has made for a slow commute for many over the past two years.

Geneva County officials hope to one day see the project extended through Geneva County. The first goal would be to see the project completed at least to Highway 167 in Hartford.

County officials have said for some time that if they can get a four-lane highway that far west, it could lead to growth at the Geneva County industrial park on Highway 167 north. The land and the project have sat virtually untouched for several years now.

There is no word if or when a second phase would happen.
