During the Labor Day holiday travel period, which was from 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, to midnight Monday, Sept. 3, Alabama State Troopers investigated six fatal traffic crashes resulting in six deaths.

Based on preliminary investigation, at least three of these fatal crashes involved alcohol.  Seat belts were available to three of the individuals killed, but none were using a seat belt.

The other fatal crashes involved a pedestrian, a motorcycle and an ATV.

During the 2011 Labor Day holiday traveling period, also 78 hours long, 12 individuals were killed in traffic crashes, and troopers investigated five of those.
