William Gordon (Bill) Martin

William Gordon (Bill) Martin, a resident of Abbeville, died Thursday afternoon, August 30, 2012, in the Crowne Health Care in Eufaula. He was 80.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (E.D.T.) Saturday, September 1, 2012, in the New Park Cemetery, Ft. Gaines, Georgia, with Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.Mr. Martin was born and reared in Clay County, Georgia, son of the late Otis Lee Martin and Willie Fendley Martin. He served his country in the U. S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Mr. Martin retired from the Navy in 1974 after twenty-two years having served on the USS Princeton during the Korean War and on the USS Coral Sea, the USS Iwo Jima and the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. He also served on the USS Saratoga in the Mediterranean. After his retirement from the military, he was employed by Palmer Electric in Dothan and Cutler Egg Products in Abbeville.Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a step-son, Danny Motley, five sisters, Jeanette Money, Mary Nell Nichols, Jimmie Johnson, Faye Bennett and Brenda Culp and also a brother, Justin Martin.Surviving relatives include his wife, Jamie Barton Martin, Abbeville; a step-daughter, Deborah Motley Loving, Panama City Beach, FL; a brother, Foy Martin, Ft. Gaines, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Martin, both of Ft. Gaines; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Julia Dell Nolan Money and husband, Jeff, a great-nephew, Jamie William Money and a great-niece, Julia Money.
