The Troy soccer team picked up its second straight victory to start the 2012 season with a 5-0 win on the road at Alcorn State on Sunday.  Cecilia Thorngren paced the Trojans with two goals and two assists on the day.

"We had most of the run of play and created a lot of opportunities today," said head coach Chris Bentley.  "We have learned a lot from this and our focus will now shift to Wednesday."

The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on Thorngren's first goal off of an assist by Paige McMillan.  Thorngren would score again less than two minutes later, with freshman Emily Sleeman picking up her first career point on the assist.

Chelsey Williams picked up her second goal of the season on an assist by Thorngren, giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead at the break.

Nikki Stamaris tallied her first goal of the season in the 47th minute, as Kirsten Rendall grabbed her first career point on the assist.  Jane Latif recorded her first career goal in the 54th minute, with Thorngren adding another assist.

Goaltenders Maddie Winter and Katie Comeno-Lewis combined to make four saves on the day in the shutout effort.

The Trojans are back in action on Wednesday, August 22, when they host Ole Miss at 3 pm at the Troy Soccer complex.
