Gilley Gets Delay In Prison Reporting Date

A federal judge has given Ronnie Gilley almost an extra month to report for prison.  According to court documents, Gilley must report to begin serving a 6 year, 8 months sentence no later than September 24.  Prior to the modification order issued by Federal Judge Myron Thompson, Gilley was to report by August 27.

The brief written order by Thompson said the decision was based upon the recommendation of Gilley's personal physician.  In a motion filed earlier this month, Gilley's attorney cited a need for surgery on his client and financial difficulties.   The latter was not addressed in Thompson's order.  The surgery, which was not identified, is not believed to be serious.

Gilleym the developer of the now-defunct Country Crossing,  was sentenced to the prison term after pleading guilty prior the so-called statehouse corruption trial. He then became a key witness for government prosecutors.  Others pleading guilty included former lobbyist Jarrod Massey and former state lawmaker and Elba School Superintendent Terry Spicer.  Both of those are still scheduled to report to prison by August 27.
