Troy Football Continues To Work Towards Saturday Scrimmage

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: August 8, 2012
The Troy University football worked out for over three hours Wednesday morning in Veterans Memorial Stadium as the Trojans continue working towards their first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Trojans will go through a pair of practices on Thursday at 8:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. and one Friday morning before Saturday's first scrimmage of fall camp.

Troy will hold its annual Fan Day on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. on the west concourse of Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Trojan Warriors Club will be providing free food and drinks to all those in attendance.

Troy has won a share of five of the past six Sun Belt Conference titles and is the only school to represent the league in five bowl games. Troy has 11 more Sun Belt victories than any other school in the league since the Trojans joined the Sun Belt in 2004. The Trojans also have a Sun Belt leading 84 all-conference selections and 38 first team all-conference selections over that same time period.

The Trojans open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 at in-state rival UAB in Legion Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised live by Fox College Sports.

Season tickets for Troy's record six home games are available for purchase by logging on to TroyTrojans.com or by calling 1-877-878-WINS. Fans can also purchase tickets to Troy's six road games through the Troy ticket office.

Head Coach Larry Blakeney
"We're dragging a little. It's about that time where their mind is tired, their body is tired and they won't push their way through things. You get bad habits when you get like that. We are trying to encourage them to get back where we've had it the whole time. We'll try and see what happens tomorrow morning, we'll probably lighten it up a little bit. Try to get ready to feel like scrimmaging Saturday morning at 11.

On what the coaches will be looking for in Saturday's scrimmage
"Full speed. Physical. Yes, I want to be good on offense and I want to be good on defense, but we are playing each other. Full speed, physical, folks who want to win - we are going to try and identify those people.

On what point in camp are the players are tired of hitting each other
"Obviously today. We've got a long time and a lot of preparation left to take care of it. We've got to keep working. We're not good enough to take a day off.
