Troy's Danny Collins Shatters Four NECBL Records

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: August 7, 2012
To say that rising Troy junior Danny Collins had a productive summer would be a massive understatement. The Trojan third baseman broke the New England Collegiate Baseball League single-season records for home runs, slugging percentage, extra-base hits and total bases while playing for the Laconia Muskrats.

The Niceville, Fla., native finished his 41-game schedule in the wood bat league with 19 home runs, an .818 slugging percentage, 29 extra-base hits and 130 total bases. Collins finished the summer second in the league in batting average (.390), second in runs scored (37), second in hits (62) and fifth in RBIs (37).

Collins earned a pair of NECBL Player of the Week Awards, represented Laconia in the NECBL All-Star Game and won the NECBL Home Run Derby. He is considered a near lock for the NECBL Most Valuable Player Award that will be handed out at following the conclusion of the league's playoffs.

The NECBL records for extra-base hits and total bases were held by Mark Malaska who played professionally for the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.

Collins led the Trojans with 12 home runs during the 2012 season while he hit at a .318 clip with 17 doubles, two triples and 52 RBIs.

About the NECBL
The New England Collegiate Baseball League is summer baseball at its best. The NECBL was founded in 1993 under the leadership of Emmy Award-winning television producer/director Joseph Consentino, former St. John's University and Boston Red Sox minor league outfielder. George Foster, former Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets All-Star HR and RBI leader, was the NECBL's first Commissioner.

Play started in 1994 and today the NECBL has become a nationally recognized top-tier league that plays in all six New England states and recruits players attending U.S colleges from New England, the other forty-four States and foreign countries.
