Luke Millard Scott

Luke Millard Scott, a resident of Dothan, died Saturday, August 04, 2012, at his home. He was 83.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 6, 2012, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Bobby Richardson and Reverend Jerry Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:30 A.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Enon Baptist Church Building Fund, 3167 Iris Road, Dothan, AL. 36301 or AlaCare Hospice, 3379 West Main Street, Dothan, AL. 36305.


Mr. Scott was born and reared in Barbour County, son of the late Willis Gordon Scott and Rosa Emily Benton Scott. He was called to active duty with the Army National Guard while serving in the Headland unit and served during the Korean War. Mr. Scott formerly lived in Tallahassee, Florida before moving to Dothan in 1966. He was self-employed as the owner and operator of a landscaping and lawn maintenance company until his retirement. He was a member of the Mt. Enon Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and also the Canal Zone Golfing Group at Dothan National Golf Course. Mr. Scott was an avid golfer and taught his sons, grandsons and great-grandsons to love the game. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lessie Scott Spann, three brothers, Calvin Scott, Cary Scott and Ned Scott.


Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-eight years, Helon Downer Scott, two sons, Steve M. Scott and wife, Debbie, Stanley M. Scott and special girlfriend "Frog" Michel, all of Dothan; two sisters, Willie Pearl Carpenter, Columbia; Ruby Kate Cureton, Enterprise; two brothers, Mark Scott and Ted Scott and wife, Elwyn, all of Dothan; sister-in-law, Ellen Scott, Webb; three grandchildren, Bret M. Scott and wife, Mindy, Brooke A. Daniels and husband, Neal, and Ben Scott; four great-grandchildren, Brantley Scott, Brody Scott, Savannah Daniels and Parker Daniels; several nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Ben Scott, Lester Spann, Marty Downer, Bill Rothenham, Terry Carpenter and Matt Scott.


The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given to Mr. Scott by Alacare Hospice and especially their nurses, Jenny, Lisa (Cookie) and Wendy and also special family friends, Melissa and her son, Noah Dean.
