The
Troy football team returned to the brand new turf in Veterans Memorial
Stadium for a near three-hour workout Friday morning in the
second session of fall camp. The Trojans worked out in helmets and
shorts for the second straight day.
The Trojans continue their progression to full pads as they will move into shells (helmets and shoulder pads) Saturday morning.

Trojans joined the Sun Belt in 2004. The Trojans also have a Sun Belt
leading 84 all-conference selections and 38 first team all-conference
selections over that same time period.
Troy
opens the 2012 season on Sept. 1 at in-state rival UAB in Legion Field.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised live by

Troy Head Coach Larry Blakeney
"There
was a lot of energy out here yesterday and a lot of energy exerted out
here yesterday. A lot of the older guys - on offense especially with
the high tempo - really got caught with some heat problems. So we rested
some guys today and we slowed the tempo down in the early stages of
practice. We got out of here better today and hopefully we can continue
to get everybody acclimated and get them back
and going.
"I
thought we had a good second day. A lot of these new guys that you are
talking to (Xavier Melton, T.J. Bryant, Zach Miller, Lenyatte Kiles) are
all looking like they are going to fit in and be contributors and that
is something that we need; especially on the defensive side at defensive
line and defensive back and some of the young guys are finding their
way too.
"We
just have to keep sawing wood as an old fella told me one time. We have
to try and make sure that every day we get better and get ready for the
season. UAB is looming very close on September 1 in the heat of the day
in Legion Field. We've got work to do to prepare for that."
Wide Receiver Eric Thomas
On the receivers as a group
"We
are doing really well. We are focusing more on the little things to get
everything right. We are focusing more on our route running instead of
worrying about what the defense is going to do to us."
On the new faces in the defensive secondary
"They
are doing really good. They are getting their feet wet a little bit,
but they are going to be really good come season time."
On having Chip Reeves back
"It's
really good for the team to have Chip back because he is a really fast
guy. You can't just cover him or me one-on-one, so it's going to be hard
on the defense to key on both of us."
On the new energy and attitude with the team
"We
started in the offseason with the octagon and we had some leaders step
up and take charge and it is really taking affect now."
