The Houston County probate office is using a new database to make sure people registering their vehicles are insured.

The online database will provide probate clerks immediate and up to date insurance information on people applying for tag renewals.

For now, the program is only being tested in certain counties, but is set to go statewide in January.

Cathy Jackson, who works at the probate office, said the program has been successful so far in Houston County.

"With this program, if you do not pay your insurance and the insurance program cancels your insurance, it will let us know that the insurance is not valid," she said. "That is going to let us know (if people are insured) so we can keep people that are not insured from getting their car tags."
