The Colorado shooting last week has sparked a nationwide surge in gun sales, in fact, they're at record levels.

Local gun shop owners are seeing the same trend.

Sportsman's Outfitters on the circle says they've seen a large spike in gun sales since January.

They attribute those sales to both the upcoming political season and the Colorado massacre.

"Anytime there is an election year where there is uncertainty in the government, the price and number of guns sold goes up. Especially in the personal carry style guns," said Heath Moorehead, who works at the sports store.

Moorehead said some have come to his store in the past week buying handguns, saying the Colorado mass shooting had made them more fearful.
