Dothan EMTs are trying to ease children's fears of first responders.

The paramedics with Care Ambulance visited a group of children at the Houston Love Memorial Library on Monday.

While there, they showed the group how paramedics can help those in need, and how to contact them in case of an emergency.

"We get the kids familiar with us so they are not afraid of us," said Dennis Poole, regional vice president of Care Ambulance.

"A lot of times they only see us when there is an emergency, so we try to relax them and let them see we're their friends not their enemies."

The event was part of the library's summer reading program, which continues until the end of the month.
