Roby, House Members Call for Transparency in Sequestration Process

U.S. Representative Martha Roby voted in favor of the Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012, H.R. 5872.

The legislation requires that President Obama provide details about how his administration plans to implement the budget sequestration cuts that are scheduled to take place in January 2013. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 5872 this afternoon by a strong bipartisan vote of 414-2.
Prior to today's vote, Rep. Roby stood with House leaders in a morning press conference to address the harmful effects that sequestration would have on U.S. military men and women and their families.

"The very people who are harmed the most are the military families. Our men and women in uniform, their spouses, and their children that are certainly not immune to the 24-7 news cycle that demonstrates that this President's refusal to act is creating this uncertainty," said Rep. Roby.
"For that mom down at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, sitting at the table wondering how she is going to put groceries on the table - this is about them. This is about them fighting for our freedoms that allows for me to stand at this podium today.
"This uncertainty is unconscionable in the United States of America that our military families would be used as political pawns in this debate.
"I am calling on the President to show leadership to provide these [military] men and women and their families with the certainty that they need moving forward to provide the strongest defense for this nation."
