Sheriff Michael A. Adkinson Jr.  announces the arrest of Britney Michelle Simpson, 26, of Warner Robbins, GA for stealing a WCSO investigator's agency vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.

On July 11, 2012, at approximately 9:04 p.m., an investigator with the Walton County Sheriff's Office reported his agency vehicle had been stolen from his residence by Simpson, his brother's girlfriend.

The two were visiting the investigator from out of town. According to statements, Simpson got into an argument with the investigator's brother after she wanted to leave in her vehicle and he denied her access because she was intoxicated.

Simpson searched a container in the residence and located a set of keys to the Sheriff's vehicle and left the residence behind the wheel.  Simpson's boyfriend attempted to stop her as she drove away; reminding her she was taking a sheriff's office  vehicle to which she responded "she didn't care".  The investigator was not home at the time of the theft.

It was believed that Simpson was headed toward the Destin, area and other area agencies were notified to assist in the Be On the Look Out (BOLO) as well as setting up checkpoints.

Approximately 20 minutes later, Simpson returned to the residence, dropped off the agency vehicle and got into her vehicle.  Simpson was stopped a short distance from the home by a deputy who subsequently arrested Simpson for Driving under the Influence (DUI) and Grand Theft Auto.

Simpson is being held in Walton County Jail on a $10,000.00 bond.
