Pike County Sheriff Refusing To Sign Bond Agreement For Accused Troy Rapist

There are new developments in the bonding of a Troy man accused of raping two Troy co-eds.

Andre Lamon Ellis is accused of raping two women living in Hunter's Mountain Mobile Estates in late March. He was arrested on April 25 by Troy police.

Ellis has been in a Pike County jail since that time on a $450,000 bond. Pike County Judge William Hightower lowered Ellis' bond by $50,000 on each of the rape counts last Tuesday, July 3. He did not reduce the $50,000 bond on burglary charges.

Ellis' attorney J Carlton Taylor told WDHN after the bond hearing that his client would be able to make the new $350,000 bond. Taylor went so far to say that his client would be out of jail no later than the next day.

Taylor also says that there is no DNA evidence in the case during court arguments.

WDHN has continued to check to see if Ellis was able to bond out. This morning Taylor said that Ellis had made his bond on July 3 but Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas has yet to sign off on the agreement.

In a phone conversation with Sheriff Thomas today he said that he would not sign off on the bond agreement. When WDHN questioned him further, Thomas said he would make no other comments at this time.

WDHN has since contacted Ellis' attorney but was unsuccessful in reaching him.
