Troy Installing New Turf in Veterans Memorial Stadium

TROY, Ala. - Troy University's Veterans Memorial Stadium will have a new playing surface for the Trojans record six home games this fall, Director of Athletics Steve Dennis announced Thursday.

Installation of the new ProGrass Blend playing surface began on Tuesday with the removal of the old AstroPlay surface that was installed in 2003. The installation is expected to take approximately three weeks and will be completed before football reports for fall camp.

"This is another project that continues to upgrade our football facilities and we are excited about future projects that will continue to enhance Troy Athletics," Dennis said. "Our fans are in for a treat this season with the best home schedule in the Sun Belt Conference, a beautiful stadium to be proud of, and a true college gameday environment. With all six of our home games being televised this year, the new turf will undoubtedly enhance Veterans Memorial Stadium to a national audience."

Veterans Memorial Stadium will be the third Sun Belt Conference venue to receive the state-of-the-art playing surface joining Louisiana-Lafayette's Cajun Field and South Alabama's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. ProGrass installed its Baseball Blend playing surface at Troy's Riddle-Pace Field prior to the 2008 season.

For the first time since moving to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2001, Veterans Memorial Stadium will be the site of six home games this upcoming season. The schedule includes visits from Mississippi State and Navy, which are the first-ever Southeastern Conference and Service Academy schools to play in Troy.

Season tickets for the 2012 football season are available and can be purchased by contacting the Troy ticket office at 1-877-878-WINS (9467). Fans can also purchase mini season ticket packages. The first package includes the Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State and Western Kentucky games, while the second package includes the FIU, Navy and Arkansas State games.

ProGrass Blend consists of 100 percent polyethylene fibers, that are 50 percent monofilament and 50 percent parallel slit, that are tufted into a woven multi-layer backing. The surface will contain a sand and rubber infill system that consists of 100 percent polyethylene fibers tufted into a woven primary backing with a secondary backing of polyurethane. The infill is a homogenous mixture of washed silica sand and ambient ground recycled crumb rubber.
