Hurricane Center Shifts Debby's Path East

By: Stephen Crews
Updated: June 24, 2012
The National Hurricane Center has shifted the path of tropical storm Debby eastward during their afternoon advisories.

Debby now is on a collision course for Panama City...if forecasters are indeed correct. Models continue to be all over the board with some hinting at a landfall in Louisiana while others put the landfall in the Panama City to Tampa coastal areas.

The good news is that forecasters don't expect Debbie to reach hurricane strength. Despite that she will bring heavy rains at times to much of the northern gulf coast along with storm surge and isolated tornadoes.

The more northerly track that Debbie takes will lead to more rain for the Wiregrass. There is also a threat for isolated tornadoes and some tropical storm force winds.

Forecasters also think Debbie will hang around for much of the week...with landfall late in the week followed by a slow northerly track.
